Directions from Upstate New York to Grand Central Parkway

Note: Expect heavy traffic in the NYC metropolitan area on Fridays from about 3PM to 8PM

Alternate I:

Take NYS Thruway (I-87) to Tappan Zee Bridge. After crossing bridge, stay on I-87 all the way to the Triborough Bridge (I-87 is called the Major Deegan Expressway once you enter the Bronx.) After crossing Triborough, get on Grand Central Parkway. Follow signs for Eastern Long Island. Grand Central Parkway becomes Northern State Parkway as you enter Nassau county.

Alternate II:

After crossing Tappan Zee Bridge as above, follow signs for Cross Westchester Expressway (I-287). Take this to Hutchison Parkway south, and proceed on Hutchison all the way to Bronx-Whitestone Bridge. After crossing bridge, follow signs to Cross Island Parkway. Take CIP to GCP East, which becomes NSP.

Alternate III:

Proceed as in II above, but once you enter the Bronx, follow signs for I-95 South towards Throgs Neck Bridge (essentially "parallel" to Whitestone Bridge). When crossing Throgs Neck, stay in right lane and follow signs for Cross Island Parkway. This will lead into NSP as above.
