Appendix VI - NYSMATYC Anthem

1997 - Revised Version
By Robert Burghardt

Sung (loosely) to the tune of “On Top of Old Smokey”

In 19 and 66
In ole Syracuse
Jack Vadney brought us together
To talk was his excuse.

He promised us whiskey
And a new primrose path
If we'd start and association
For teachers of Math.

Then just 12 months later
We gathered anew
To pool our resources
And see what we could do.

We fussed and we argued
'Til dawn's early light
And wrote a Constitution
That proved to be just right.

Then for our first president
From Corning out west
Herb Gross came to tell us
That his jokes were the best.

Next there was Vadney
Who served for two years
Then McCartney and Walters
And Hackett sipping beers.

Don Cohen and Washington
Sam Mac elected duly
Then Bob Burghardt
Proudly doing his duty.

Paul Earl and the Angel
From Rochester upstate
Jerry Lieblich with his t-shirts
He thought were just great.

Trivieri who brought
The shirts for his tribe
And now Bruce Haney
Who affiliation must describe.

Roy Cameron and Klee
The last of the old boys
'Til Carol we welcomed
As prexy with joy.

Sue Forman continued
With her charm from the Bronx
Jerry Smith with his computer
Tucked into his trunk.

Joe Browne from Onondaga
Served in the twentieth year
Then Dodway and Danforth
Both men of good cheer.

Sadie Bragg from Manhattan
Then Len from the Lakes
Next 'twas our Rickie
In races, prizes he takes.

Now these years later
We sing anew
Of five more leaders
All noble and true.

Next came two ladies
To take o'er the reins
Judy and Joan
Led us with no pains.

Mandery and Katie
For the next two years
Now Mary Ann from Erie
Greeted with cheers.

So here's to NYSMATYC
Of the tales I have told
As the years slip by us
May it stay good as gold
